A welcoming public sauna session

ASA accreditation.

Our accreditation standard is on the way. It's a shared commitment to authentic, safe, and accessible sauna, not a hard top-tier badge, and not a judgement.

The Australian way

Global practice, made local.

We're collating the practices that work globally, drawing on the International Sauna Association, the British Sauna Society, and Sauna from Finland, and adapting them to the Australian way: casual, playful, and grounded in our climate, our landscape, and acknowledgement of Country. We're at the early stages of moving toward standardisation. We're not the all-seeing authority. We're gathering what works, and shaping it to fit how we live here.

What we'll verify against

Built on our pillars.

Accreditation will be verified against our values and pillars by ASA Committee Representatives. It's designed to lift the whole movement, not to rank it.

Authenticity & tradition

A genuine sauna experience: real heat, real steam, and respect for the bathing tradition the word carries.

Safety

Fire, electrical, and structural care, clear emergency procedures, and water hygiene that keeps bathers safe.

Sustainability

Energy and water used thoughtfully, with an eye to climate, bushfire resilience, and local sourcing.

Accessibility

Welcoming, well-signed spaces and clear etiquette so more people can take part, comfortably.

Community & belonging

Sauna is for everyone. On the bench, all ages and backgrounds are equal, and the culture is one of community and connection.

Transparency

Honest information about what you offer, how you run, and how you keep improving.

How it'll work

Accreditation is being designed to be supportive, not punishing. We'd rather help you get there than turn you away. Operators will work through a published checklist against our pillars, with guidance and links to the people who can help. Verification will be carried out by ASA Committee Representatives, and the focus is on raising the standard together, not handing out a pass or a fail.
