We hold a clear, respectful position on what a sauna is, built on the International Sauna Association's definition. It's the foundation everything below sits on.

For operators

The Operators' Charter.

A voluntary commitment for sauna operators across Australia, to bather safety, honesty, and care for the craft. Operators who sign on are recognised through the ASA.

01

Safety first

Operate within fire, electrical, and building requirements; maintain heaters, guards, and ventilation; and have clear emergency procedures and first-aid provision.

02

Honest information

Represent temperatures, sessions, and facilities accurately, and make health guidance and contraindications easy to find before bathing.

03

Hygiene & water care

Keep benches, floors, and plunge water clean and well-maintained, with documented cleaning routines appropriate to the facility.

04

Respect & inclusion

Provide a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all bathers, with clear etiquette and a process for raising concerns.

05

Trained practitioners

Where Aufguss or guided sessions are offered, ensure practitioners are trained in heat control, towel technique, and guest safety.

06

Continuous improvement

Engage with ASA guidance, share learnings, and work toward raising the standard of sauna across Australia.
